The chart depicts the average expenditure of three different types of fast food per person per week, categorized by high, average, and low-income people in Britain. The graph also compares the trend in consumption of three different types of fast food during a period of 20-years.
It is clear that high-income people spend much more on fast food than lower-income people. Also, interestingly while, Hamburgers and Pizza consumption increased, Fish and chips usage decreased during the period.
High-income people spend most on Hamburger, which is about 40 Pence in every week, while low-income people spend 15 Pence per week approximately. Fish and chips is the highest fast food spending proportion for the average income group, (25 Pence per week), while the other two groups have the same figure in it, (20 Pence per week). Pizza is the lowest fast food expenditure for the low-income category, which is about 8 Pence per week, while, it is the second expenditure for high-income people, which is about 20 Pence.
In 1970, the consumption of Fish and Chips stood at 300 grammes, which was the highest amount among other fast food categories, while Hamburgers started at almost 100 grammes, and Pizza was about 30 grammes. However, Hambergures usage increased sharply and reached almost 200 grammes in 1983 and overtook Fish and chips usage. In 1988, while Hamburgers consumption continued its upward trend, Pizza, consumption also increased significantly passed Fish and Chips figure too.
