The chart shows activities carried out online by individuals in the UK. In response to the survey, 84% of people stated that they use the internet to send and receive emails, making direct correspondence the most popular activity. While social networking was also a popular pastime, nearly 20% fewer respondents take part in this. The second most popular activity was researching goods and services – 77% of respondents said that they use the internet for this purpose. Interestingly, while just over three quarters of respondents look up information about products, only a quarter sell goods or services online. Other main uses of the internet are online banking (69%) and entertainment. Of the different forms of entertainment, watching online videos is the most popular at 62%. Similar numbers of respondents listen to music and watch streamed TV online. The least popular form of online entertainment among respondents was online gaming (31%) – half as popular as watching online videos.
