The chart below shows the number of trips made by children in one country in 1990 and 2010 to travel to and from school using different modes of transport. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The chart illustrates the various means of transportation that are used by the children aged 5 to 12 years to attend school with the amount of such visits in a country in the years of 1990 and 2010. Overall, there was a change in the most commonly used transportation method between these twenty years. For instance, walking was the most common method to go to school in 1990; however, in 2010 that was reduced by the half, whereas, driving children by cars became the most preferred method in 2010. Although cars were the least used method in 1990, there was an increase by more than double the number of trips which reached approximately 11 million trips in 2010. On the other hand, there was a sharp drop in the number of school visits done by walking which decreased from more than 12 million in 1990 to 6 millions in 2010. The variation was also significant in cycling which decreased by one-third between the same years. Although children using walking and bus or bus alone to go to school was reduced in 2010, that change was not as dramatic as in the other modes of transport.
