Proportion of Population Aged 65 and Over
The graph depicts the proportion of elderly people in three countries—USA, Sweden and Japan—from 1940 to 2040. From pattern of the previous years, it is predicted that the population aged 65 and over will increase up to over 20% in all three nations.
Over the 100-year period, USA experiences a constant rise in the proportion of elderly people, with years experiencing little to no change, such as in years 2000 to 2020. On the other hand, Sweden’s numbers have been fluctuating, with the overall increase of less than 20%. Between the countries, Japan sees the most difference in proportion of the elderly. From 1940 to 2000, there has been a slight but steady decrease, followed by an increase, such that there has been no overall change during those years. Soon after, the number rises from 5% to 10%. Subsequently, in year 2030, a drastic surge is observed, reaching a whopping 25%, and continues to grow, though in a less extreme manner.
In essence, the proportion of aged 65 and over grows positively in all the countries, Japan, Sweden and USA, in descending order of amount of growth.
