The chart illustrates the number of trips made by different modes of transportation (cars, walking, buses, cycling ) in the year 1990 and in 2010 by children (aged 5 - 12) to travel to and from school. Overall, Walking was the most popular method of travelling in 1990 than cars which were least used mode of transportation. However, this is complete opposite in the year 2010 where cars are the most popular mode of transportation than any method of travelling to school. In terms of cars, around 11M trips were made in 2000 as opposed to only approximately 4 million in 1990. There is the drastic increase in use of cars over a period 20 years. However, When it comes to walking, more than 12 million trips were made in the 1990 and then 20 year later in 2010 this number is decreased to almost half with only around 6M made by children to school by walking. On the other hand, the number of trips made by remaining modes of transportation did not change much in both the years. Over 4M trips were made by walking and bus together in 1990 which is slightly higher than in 2010 when over 2M trips were made by walking and bus. None of the years showed much change in the use of bus as means of transport which accounted to over 6M trips made in 1990 and around 5M in the years 2010
