The chart below shows the number of trips made by children in one country in 1990 and 2010 to travel to and from school using different modes of transport. KxML
The bar graph represents the number of trips made by school children aged 5-12 with different modes of transportation such as cars, cycle and buses and other combinations of these transportation methods. We can clearly see that in 1990, walking was the most popular way to travel to and from school than in 2010. Where it was the exact opposite in terms of using car as a mode of transportation. When it comes to using car as a mode of transportation to get to school we can see that in 2000 approximately 11 million trips were made in 2010 as compared to in 1990 where only less 6 million trips were made to and from school. This clearly states that car was not as popular in 1999 and also could mean that a less number people owned cars. The other methods of transportation such as cycling and bus and combination of both bus and walking, all these methods have a common theme that they were more popular in 1990's than in 2010. Cycling was more popular in 1990 with 6 million trips made per year as compared only 2 million trips in 2010. We can also clearly infer that travelling by bus to and from school was more commonly used method in 1990 with at least 6 million trips made per year and not much has changed in this case in 2010 as even now at least 5 million trips are made to and from school per year. And lastly, walking and using bus to get to school was more readily used method in 1990 with 6. 7 million trips made in 1990 but that number has dropped by almost 50% in 2010 with only 3 million trips made. So we can clearly conclude that in 1990, walking was the most common and highly used transportation mode used by school kids and in 2010, travelling by car is one of the most common and highest used method of transportation by school kids.
