The two maps illustrate how the town centre has changed since 1700. Several key trends are revealed by the maps that over 300 years, the town centre was almost completely rebuilt. The only that still remains the same as it was in the past is the market square and the church on the right side of it. First, as we can see, the Market Street has been enlarged and along the sides of the roads, there are a number of new shops constructed. Next, the goode farm is now converted into a new car park on the left and they also build some shops on the right. Besides, it can be easily seen that the fields were all knocked down, and some new shops have been built near Peter’s Lane street. Furthermore, the house on the right left side of Peter’s Lane street now becomes a supermarket and the stables have been reverted into block of birds. It is also interesting to notice that the hotel has also been widened. Moreover, the Steggle Road has been broadened, and people also build a roundabout among High street, Peter’s Lane street and Market St. However, the market square and the church on the right side of it is still the same as it was in the past. We can also see that people have built a new public park on the left of the steggle road.
