Overall, the quantity of honey-bee hives and their honey production fluctuated differently in the first 20 years, but they both experienced a dramatic decrease over the last 20 years of the period. Firstly, the number of honey-bee colonies reached its peak at about 4. 2 million in 1980, an increase of 0. 2 million from 4 million in 1970. However, over the period of 30 years, the honey-bee population saw a considerable decline of more than a million every 10 years to their lowest point at 1. 7 million in 2010. As for the second chart, between 1970 and 1980, the amount of honey produced fell from 130, 000 tonnes to 110, 000 tonnes. Nevertheless, there was a steady growth in American bees produced by 10, 000 tonnes to 120. 000 tonnes. Honey production went down by 20, 000 tonnes and 30, 000 tonnes, respectively. The year 2010 had the smallest amount of honey production in the US at 70, 000 tonnes.
