The bar graph illustrates, average number of car travelled into city centre by residents and non- residents from the year 1996 to 2005. Overall, it is evident from the graph that during first four years number of car journeys made by residents are more than that of non- resident. While it dropped and keep fluctuating till 2005. Additionally, number of car journeys by resident remained high from 1999 to 2002 and then fallen. Firstly, in 1996, nearly 10000 resident per day travelled by car into city centre, it keep showing variation between 9000 and 10000 till 1999. However, it fallen to 5000 after marking meters was introduced into city centre. Till 2002 the number keep fluctuating around 5000. When traffic to westgate anf park lane street was closed thus number further fallen to 4000 in 2003. In 2005 it was same whereas in 2004 it was 500 less than that in 2003. On the other hand, the number of non- resident cars in 1996 is 5000, it keep increasing and reached slightly above 8000 in 1999. Introduction of parking metre does not affected the number and it remained around 8000 till 2002. Nevertheless, closing of westgate street and park lane reduced the number of car to 3000 in 2003 which shown slight increase in the following year by 100 cars and finally in 2005 the number goes back to 5000 as it was in 1996.
