It is thought that non-academic subjects are necessary for pupils at school. Others claim that they are just time-consuming. I agree that they may not help us much, we should not neglect them either. On one hand, I accept that art isn't very helpful.
Firstly, companies are now trying to seek for skilled employees who know well about science and linguistics, such as Maths, Literature, and English. So those subjects should be compulsory. My school can be an example for this. In my school, academic subjects are required and non-academic ones are optional. Secondly, good knowledge in natural science and social science is undoubtedly essential. Everyday tasks need them and art can't help solve those tasks. My father is another good example. He's a mathematician. And thanks to his competence in Maths, he manages to solve a lot of everyday problems.
Despite so, I still believe that art is not to be counted out. For one thing, they help us develop social skills. Now, companies are not just trying to find someone competent in Maths for example, they also find people with good collaboration and confidence. These social skills can undeniably be improved through art lessons rather than a Literature lesson in a classroom. I had experienced something like that. Once, I was very shy, but through PE lessons, I gradually improved my shyness and finally it has gone away without my knowing it. Furthermore, subjects such as Music and Arts should be compulsory. If a school decides to remove them out of the must-study list, some students good at them will be denied their talent, and will not have any chances to develop their talent. For instance, if art had been abolished, we would never have the fortune to hear Mozart's songs or see some amazing pictures from Picasso.
In short, I accept that art may not be very helpful to us, it should not be neglected by any means.
