The diagram illustrates the process of removing salt from the seawater to produce potable water.
First, the salt water is piped down the sea. Next, it is placed to a Pre-treatment filter, filter backwash will then be returned to the sea. After filtering, the water is forced through a membrane at high pressure which removes impurities and salt (collectively known as seawater concentrate) and will be brought back to the sea. As a result, only water molecules will pass through the next chamber. Consequently, the water is subjected to a post treatment containing lime, chlorine and fluoride. From this, water is put into a storage to integrate the water supply system.
The water is clean because impurities and salt are removed, and it has undergone numerous process to ensure that it is potable.
