The given process flow diagram depicts the information about the manufacturing process of sugar from sugar cane. The process of manufacturing involves four key stages, namely: growing sugarcanes, crushing, separating and drying.
Overall, the manufacturing of sugar begins with cultivation of sugarcane and ends with the process of drying and cooling to form the crystals of sugar.
The sugarcanes are grown for a time span of 12-18 months. Later, the matured sugarcanes are harvested either manually or by using machines. In the manual harvesting of sugarcanes the farmers cut the shoots(stems) of the cane. After harvesting, the canes undergo the process of crushing and a juice extracted as the byproduct. The juice is then purified by a limestone filter.
The purified juice goes into the evaporator, where the juice is subjected to heat and the juice is converted into a syrup. Next, the syrup goes into the centrifuge. During this process, sugar crystals are separated from the syrup. Later, crystals undergo the process of drying and cooling.
