Generally, the amount of waste entering the part of the ocean have shown a decreasing trend during the period. Apart from offshore oil and domestic sewage which showed an increase, all the other pollutants decreased in amount during the period.
Pollutants from air, the largest contributor recorded a decrease by 1% in 2007 from the 30% in 1997. Both litter and farm waste contributed 4% of the total waste in 1997 but decreased to 0% and 2% respectively in 2007. Amount Industrial waste also declined from 17% in 1997 to 9% in 2007. Marine waste dropped by 5% in 2007 from 22% in 1997.
Offshore oil showed an increase in number during the period recording 14% in 2007 from 5% in 1997. Domestic sewage which together with pollutants from the air dominated during the whole period, recorded a shoot with 18% in 1997 to 29% in 2007.
