The graph illustrates the percentage of homes using electricity and natural gas for heating fuel from 1950 to 2010. Overall, it is clear that natural gas was by far the most popular type for heating fuel compared to electricity. The percentage of homes choosing electricity to heat fuel increased steadily, accounting for about 15% of homes built before 1950. However, by the year 2010, the figure reached its peak, with around 45% of homes which made fuel be heated by electricity. On the other hand, exactly 60% of houses built before 1950 heated fuel by natural gas, then it plateaued till 1950-1969. However, it was far more than those constructed in the same year, with a percentage of 40% of houses choosing electricity. After that, the number of houses using natural gas dropped during the period of 1960 and 1980, then it remained stable with approximately 45% of the homes up to 2010, which was equal to that of homes using electricity.
