Park et al. also developed a new "hybrid" approach to simplify and improve the flexibility and accuracy of PDAs for VOC detection in each liquid and vapor phase via integrating PDA-based hydrochromic sensors with a conventional smartphone device. PDAs are prepared by polymerization a set of DAs, each of which has the suitable functional group and alkyl chain length, were inkjet-printed on separated regions on a paper substrate, which offer the corresponding PDA a particular colorimetric response to solvents. After exposing the sensor array to eleven organic solvents, color changes of four PDAs occur simultaneously. ultimately, the smartphone camera and the application are used to identify the solvent, that is, exposing the PDA array to an unknown solvent changes color, which is imaged using the smartphone camera and analyzed using the analysis app. comparing color changes in a database created by eleven solvents permits the smartphone app to detect an unknown solvent with 100% accuracy.
