The pie charts ilustrate the main source of energy in the USA during two years, 1980 and 1990. The charts show that oil remained as the major energy source in the USA in the 1980s and the 1990s. Overall, while the percentage of other major energy sources such as coal, natural gas and hydroelectric power remained in much the same proportions, the energy source from nuclear power dramatically increased which doubled its percentage over ten years.
According to the charts, oil supplied the largest percentage of energy, although it plummeted quite significantly from 42% in 1980 to 33% in 1990. Natural gas as the second largest source of energy slightly decreased from providing 26% total energy in 1980 to 25% in the decade later. Interestingly, the used of coal in the USA rose, though not by quite so much, which stood at 27% in 1990 where the rate was 22% in the previous decade. There was no change in the percentage supplied by the hydroelectric power which remained at 5% of the total energy used. The greatest change is shown from the used of nuclear power which reached 10% of total percentage in 1990, twice that of the 1980s.
