I am very interested in pursuing my Masters of Science (MSc) in Electrical Engineering as I wish to study and become an expert in HVDC and HVAC Transmission line. My curiosity for Electrical engineering arose after I watched the documentary about the UHVDC (Ultra High Voltage Direct Current) transmission line Project Name Changji-Gaquan UHVDC. In this documentary the china constructed 12Gega watt, 1100kv HVDC line which carry direct current up to distance of 3, 324km. In comparison with Conventional HVAC(High voltage Alternating Current) transmission line there are a lot of advantages of HVDC transmission line like low Voltage losses, Asynchronous interconnection of different frequencies,
HVDC transmission system has many more advantages over HVAC, such as stability, controllability etc. . For distances longer than the break-even distance, HVDC system becomes more cost effective. Submarine HVDC links can be more suitable for connecting offshore wind farms as they prove to be more efficient and cost effective than undersea HVAC cables. Hence, there is an increasing interest in HVDC transmission. Still, HVAC system will remain much longer as it has its own advantages in transmission and distribution, such as it can be easily stepped up and stepped down. HVDC is actually a complement for AC systems rather than a rival. . I hope to learn more about HVDC systems in the XXXX course while pursuing my Masters.
My specialty is in projects related to the reduction of Vibration and Noise. During my job at Fatima Fertilizers Company (Fertilizer Manufacturing Plant), I had the opportunity to take part in various jobs related towards machinery maintenance including the Radial alignment of the horizontal split centrifugal compressor and the rim and face alignment of the reduction gearbox using a dial indicator. Alignment is critical for preventive maintenance because misalignment may lead to the increase in vibration levels, which would decrease the reliability of the equipment. The increased wear on the bearings, seals, gears, couplings, shafts, and other components, also lead to an increase in energy consumption. During the training program at my company, I became familiar with the Bently Nevada Conditioning Monitoring software and equipment. The Bently Nevada is installed on high speed rotating equipment such as Centrifugal compressors and steam turbines for its condition monitoring. At the Urea manufacturing plant at Fatima Fertilizers, centrifugal compressors are used to compress carbon dioxide. The Bently Nevada condition monitoring software along used 5 probes installed on the vertical split centrifugal compressor to accurately monitor vibration. Two probes are used to monitor thrust vibration on the thrust bearings and the axial displacement of the rotor shaft, two probes are used for radial vibration monitoring, and one key phaser is used for the measurement of the phase angle. These all provide a data set on an Amplitude-Frequency graph and the waveform shows whether there is a misalignment, unbalance or a bearing defect on the equipment while the centrifugal compressor is running. I wish to further enhance my knowledge in the field of vibrational analysis during the design phase.
