Overall, while the amount of wheat exported by the European community increased, the figure for Canada fluctuated and that of Australia decreased. Also, it is clear that the amount of wheat exported in Canada was highest over most of the period. In the first year, while the amount of wheat exported over Canada stood at about 19 million tonnes, the figure for the European Community was lower, at about 17 million tonnes. From 1985 to 1986, the figures for Canada and European Community rose to 17 million tonnes and 14 million tonnes respectively. Then, the amount of wheat exported in Canada fluctuated wildly and reached a peak of 15 million tonnes in 1988, before standing at about 14 million tonnes in the last year. At the same time, the figure for the European Community saw a gradual increase and reached the highest point of 21 million tonnes in 1990. In 1985, the amount of wheat exported by Australia stood at 15 million tonnes. From 1985 to 1986, this figure saw a slight rise to 16 million tonnes, but later decreased steadily and hit the lowest point of about 11 million tonnes in the last year.
