The line graph illustrates the amount of three kinds of spread (Margarine, low fat and reduced spreads and butter) which was consumed between the year 1981 to 2007. Units are measured in grams. Overall, the consumption of margarine and butter were low on the contrary there was a rise in low fat and reduced spread. At the start of the period, butter was the most commonly used spread, which was replaced by margarine from the year 1991 to 2001 and following that low fat and reduced spread became the most widely used spread in the final years. The amount of butter used at the beginning was around 140 grams and it peaked to 160 grams in 1986. On the contrary there was a drop in the consumption to 50 grams by 2007. Similarly, consumption of margarine was nearly 90 grams at the beginning and it dropped to 40 grams by the final years. Whereas, Low-fat and reduced spreads were only consumed about 10 grams at the beginning of 1996. The figure reached a height of 80 grams in 5 years, and slightly fell in the final period to approximately 70 grams in 2007.
