The above diagram describes the stages of life in a silkworm, its development from a silkworm to a moth and also pictorially shows the making and development of silk from the silkworm cocoon.
The first diagram is showing a pictorial flow chart of the life cycle of the silkworm with time constraints as days and the second is a similar flow chart with a diagram for the development of silk cocoon to silk. The second diagram commences when the first diagram is completed in order.
The first diagram shows the development of silkworms from an egg to silk larvae, which is feeding on mulberry leaves as food. Then the larvae after 4 to 6 weeks forms a cocoon on the outside of its body, and finally form a cocoon which will give rise to the moth and this moth again lays the eggs and the cycle repeats.
The production of silk cloth starts when the cocoon is made by the larvae and is left after its development. This cocoon is taken and boiled in water after the boiling, the cocoon is unwired into strings. These strings are then dyed to produce colour on them and finally used for the clothes.
