Contribution of sectors to the economy in the UK
Contribution of sectors to the economy in the UK n0bn
The bar graph provides information on the proportion of contribution of the different sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing and business and financial services to the economy of UK from 1900-2000.
Overall, it can be clearly seen from the data that the trend of agriculture and manufacturing were relatively similar (decreased significantly), however, there was some variance, especially during 1975 when the contribution of manufacturing was much higher that of agriculture, whereas business and financial services experienced a gradual increase in its contribution to the economy. Furthermore, the most significant difference among the three sectors was on agriculture.
In details, in 1990, almost half (48%) of the contribution came from the agriculture industry, then it increased to more than 50%, the highest contribution among the sectors. By contrast, a sudden drop was experienced on 1975, accounting for only 10% and continued hitting off a point for more or less than 1% 25 years after. Similarly, the manufacturing sector continually decreased from 1990 to 2000 (about 45% to nearly 20%).
On the contrary, the business and financial services sector, being the least sector contributing to the British economy on 1990, has been increasing dramatically over the period, from nearly 5% to considerably more than 30% by the end of the twentieth century.
