In this set of materials, the writer and the lecturer are discussing if the professors should join to the television programs, or not. While the author states that it will be beneficial for professors themselves, for universities and for students, the lecturer opposes this with several explanations and examples. Firstly, according to writer if a professor appears as a guest on a tv program, he/she will get reputation, because wider audience will watch him/her than the students are only on campus. On the contrary, the lecturer rejects this idea. She claims that being on tv shows will not be good professors themselves, because they will get reputation from the fellow professors only. Also, due to the tv programs are not educational, they will be seen an entertainment show by the audience. Secondly, the writer points out that universities also gains reputation from the professors who join the tv programs, because the universites receive positive publicity. In contrast with author, the lecturer states that if the professors join tv programs in their all times, they will waste their times. Thus, there will be no great time for professors to investigations or deal with the university business, so that will cause to lost reputation for universities. Lastly, the author claims that public gains from professors' appearing on tv, due to the fact that they talk about deep and thoughtful issues rather than the superficial ones. However, the lecturer opposes this idea, because in tv shows there are not deep or thoughtful subjects are debated, even professors talk about not intellectual issues. All in all, while the writer thinks that professors appearing on tv brings professors themselves, universities and public to gain, the lecturer claims that it causes several problems.
