I think that online dating sucks because you don't have the opportunity to establish eyes to eyes connection with an interlocutor.
Offline dating is much better because you are excluding the situation when you and your interlocutor can have some misunderstandings due to the fact that you are communicating by text and are reading intonations differently.
I think it's possible to build good relationships with a partner if you've met him/her online, but we are talkin' about exceptional cases.
I don't know anyone who has built with their partner from their social circle.
