Museums of different kinds, exhibiting objects of historical, cultural and scientific values have always enjoyed great significance in the society. However, most of these museums, in recent years, do not provide free access to the visitors. Although this change might lead to a negative consequence, such as a decline in the number of visitors, it definitely offers more benefits to the museum and the society. In my opinion, it is far better to charge an entry fee than allowing anyone and everyone inside for free. Firstly, these institutions do not have any source of revenue other than the funds received from the government’s budget. Thus, the greatest advantage of this development is that the admission charges can actually generate and augment their income, which in turn can be used to pay the salary of the employees working there and also for the renovation and conservation of its infrastructure. Entry fees are required for a majority of museums while others are free. In my opinion, the merits have outweighed the demerits being that it allows to generate an extra profit as the government’s subsidy is not enough for all expenses. To begin with, the main cause of chargeable entry is additional revenue for museums, which is used for renewing the exhibits, paying utilities, and renovating infrastructure to attract more new visitors. People cannot deny that the government's payment is a fixed amount and not able to close each cost, that’s why the entry fee is a huge help. A good illustration of this is a national historical museum in Almaty, where tickets are exorbitantly expensive, but people come there from all over the world because of gathering vital information and knowledge, and technologies. On the other hand, there are drawbacks too; a chargeable entry fee may reduce the number of visitors as not every person will have an opportunity to visit a museum due to lack of finance. For instance, financially weak people and students cannot afford a purchasing ticket, but as a citizen has all right to acknowledge the cultural and historical data of owns motherland. Hence, decreasing prices for certain groups of people will be a good solution in this case. Otherwise, it is a violation of their rights. In conclusion, I will end by stating that entry fee is a great and needful purpose for museums owing to bring extra cash which uses for maintaining works; in the future, it will attract/bring more people like tourist and locals.
