In the reading passage, the painting of a woman that could represent the style of Rembrandt's portraits was removed from the official collection of his paintings. The lecturer talked about the same topic as indicated in the reading, but her argument is opposite to the three reasons in the reading. And the professor explains her ideas specifically in details. Firstly, the color of the dress worn by the woman who was a servant is inconsistent with her status, and Rembrandt was really careful about details. However, the professor expressed that the luxury color of the coat was painted on one hundred years after the painting has been finished to increase the value of that portrait. So the inconsistency reason of regarding the painting as a fake has been failed. Additionally, the light and shadow elements in the painting are disordered, which is the reflected light on the woman's face from below cannot be generated from the dark color of the coat. But after getting rid of the dark color from that coat, the original light color showed up, making the illumination realistic. Then the second reason has become nonsense. Finally, in the reading passage, the portrait was painted on several pieces of wood joint together. But the professor said that some other people glued those wood pieces together to make it seems more grand, and after separating them apart, people found out that the original picture is on one wood, which is exactly on the same tree Rembrandt used to paint his self-portrait wearing a hat. As said in the speech, these evidence could have proved that the portrait of the woman suffered through controversy for a long time is a real Rembrandt.
