Both the reading and the lecture are about asthma and its consequences and causes. 2bxYx
Both the reading and the lecture are about asthma and its consequences and causes. The reading provides us with a definition of this term and a couple of consequences of asthma such as susceptibility to certain triggers and bronchial narrowing. The lecturer, however, challenges the author's point of view by trying to show that the mentioned consequences are, in fact, causes of the desease. He bolsters the argument by citing the results of a particular research. First of all, the reading passage provides information about the triggers that asthmatics are susceptible to, such as pollen, fur, etc. However, the lecturer notes that not only those triggers are accountable for the desease emmergance, but also genetic factors must be taken into consideration. The thing is, it has been discovered that some fraction of people with asthma were already born with it. Secondly, the author claims that there are two causes of broncial narrowing that is caused ny asthma: squeezing by musceles and blocking by mucus. He is also of the opinion that those conditions subside after the attack and the airways return to normal. Notwithstanding, it is clearly stated in the lectute that those conditions are not the consequences of the desease, but rather causes. With time, they cause remodeling of tubes which is the basis for developing asthma.
