Both reading and listening are about the number of birds in the United State. Whereas the reading claims that the number of birds will necessarily decline, and gives three supporting reasons. To start with, according to the passage, the increase of the human population and sattlement would decrease the the traditional areas suitable for birds. However, the lecturer finds this argument un convencing. She explains how the birds have now better and larger habitats. While some birds' number decrease, other kinds of birds' number increases.
