Both reading and listening are about the number of birds in the United State RNrOQ
Both reading and listening are about the number of birds in the United State. Whereas the reading claims that the number of birds will necessarily decline, and gives three supporting reasons. The listening disagree with this claim, and cast doubt on each reason. To start with, according to the passage, the increase of the human population and sattlement would decrease the the traditional areas suitable for birds. However, the lecturer finds this argument un convencing. She explains how the birds have now better and larger habitats. While some birds' number decrease, other kinds of birds' number increases. Then she gives some examples of these birds like falcon Secondly, according to the author, the increase in agricultural activities also have the same effect on the birds habitats. As a result, the birds populations in the rural areas will continue to decline. But the professor challengs this by saying that this is might happening, but not the way mention in the passage. Nowadays, new technology used to increase the efficiency of the land to produce more per land. So, no need to expand the lands. Finally, according to the reading, the pesticidal will effecting the birds by eaither killing them, or effecting their reproducing. In contrast, the lecturer says that this is incorrect projection of the history to the future. Now, two new strategies are used to protect the birds: using less toxic material and developing more pesticial resistance crops, which do not harm the birds at all.
