These days, on account of globalisation, Western-style outfits are increasing in popularity the world over. This essay aims to not only shed some light on the factors that trigger this trend but also debate whether people’s wearing Western clothes more often than traditional ones is beneficial or not. There are two main reasons why more and more people are choosing to wear Western-style clothes instead of traditional ones. First of all, modern outfits make people feel more comfortable as they are made of various materials suitable for different weather conditions and daily activities such as working, playing sports and doing household chores. Moreover, Western-style clothes are not too long and do not have as many parts as traditional clothes, which enables people to move easily as well as avoid slipping or stepping on clothes. Secondly, new modern styles outfits are suitable for all body shapes. These clothes have various styles and designs available in the market whilst traditional ones only have some kinds of shape and certain designs which sometimes show body flaws. On the one hand, wearing Western clothes is a positive trend due to two major benefits. Firstly, wearing modern clothes could help to increase productivity. As these clothes bring comfortable feeling to who wear them, people would work more efficiently and easily. Moreover, people could also avoid accidents such as slipping and stepping on clothes. Secondly, the trend the Western-style clothes become more and more prevalent could also stimulate the development of the global textile industry. When people’s clothes have same styles and designs, many countries could promote exportation all over the world. Besides, developing countries could take advange of low-cost labour in order to manufacture more affordable clothes. On the other hand, if people uses Western-style clothes rather than traditional ones, there would be a consequence that cultural diversity would decrease. Since a great number of people refer to Western-style outfits, it would lack national identity. Additionally, tourism could be suffered from numerous negative effects that prevent it from developing. By way of conclusion, I strongly believe that wearing Western-style outfits is a positive trend despite its drawbacks. However, it is highly recommended that people should wear traditional clothes on festival days such as Tet and Mid-Autumn in order to preserve intangible cultural heritage of their countries.
