The pie chart shows the number of spacecrafts launched by eight countries for fifty-year period from 1957 to 2007, while the bar chart indicates the purposes of the spacecraft missions during the same period. There appears to exsist a relationship between the number of launched missions and their purpose. In general, most of the spacecrafts were launched by the Solviet Union and the USA in order to improve communications. Together Canada and India launched approximately a tenth of the spacecrafts. Whereas the Solviet Union and the USA send almost two-thirds of the missions. By 2007 the reasearch spacecrafts were only around 10%, while by the same time the surveillance satellites accounted for double than the research missions. The weather observation spacecrafts were only 5% as well as the number of planetary exploration missions. The European Union launched around 285 missions, whereas the commercial send double – 539 for fifty years. In conclusion, by 2007 most of the missions were for communication improving, also the missions were dominated by Russia and the USA.
