Both mother and father are the main pillars in a child’s life.
Who should be more involved with a child’s upbringing, the mother, the father, or both?
I believe in the saying; it takes two to tango. Children need both their parents’ intervention to grow holistically in their life.
I have two boys. Being an overthinking mother, I’ve always needed a companion who is laid back and logical to calm me down in difficult situations. My boys have always observed how my husband dealt with situations calmly, whereas, I panicked every time something bad happened to them. This variation was enough for them to witness two different perspectives and decide for themselves which perspective made more sense to them.
One of my boys has built rapport with his father since they both share the same interest, Lego. I wouldn’t have been able to understand this passion if it wasn’t for my husband. This bond was necessary during the pandemic when our kids needed a lot of help with their online learning. Due to the bond that my younger child had with his dad, my child was open to learn a lot from him. The time they spent together during the online learning, lead my child to become amongst the most knowledgeable children in his class.
My older child is a very sensitive boy who didn’t build the same bond with his dad as the younger one did. I believe understanding this fact, was a motive for both my child and husband to find a common ground. They had to find a different kind of bond that was built with the younger child. This itself must have taught my older son that sometimes we may not bond with certain people the way we do with others. It also taught him that sometimes you need to be open minded enough to try and find other ways to bond with people around us.
In conclusion, I believe that the involvement of both parents plays a vital role in a child’s view to life, as it gives him an insight of the diversity of the world around them.
