The chart give information on proportion of households owning and renting accommodation in England and Wales from 1918 to 2011. Overall, the percentage of house owner increased, households lived in owned accommodation gradually took place of rent house and became majority. The ratio of households in owned accommodation in England and Wales stood at approximately one-fouth in 1918, which followed by an upward trend, until 2001, reaching to the top at around 70 percent. Although slightly declining roughly 5% in next decade, it still took the lead. In contrast, the percentage of households in rented accommodation decreased from maximum (75%) in 1918 to 70% in 1939. And It stabilized for fourteen years till 1953, then descended again. It was worth noting that in 1971, it was equal between the amounts of households in owned accommodation and rented accommodation. The rate of households in rented house fall to 30% in 2001. It rised again for about 5% in 2011, representing around half of households in owned house.
