The two maps illustrate how the layout of a shopping mall had developed from 1985 to 2005. Overall, it is obvious that provision for entertainment and leisure facilities had decreased, which lead to the large proportion of stall vacancy and the replacement of various modernized service areas. One key change is the demolishment of all six movie theaters on the right corners of the mall next to the site of the former food stalls. In addition, several food stalls in the court had been removed or replaced by two large cafes, which were located on the right side of the lower entrance. Furthermore, a central food stall was built, making the number of restaurants down from eight in 1985 to four in 2005. Another significant development is the renovation of the past shoes and videos store to a huge electronics shop. Next, the mall zoning had pulled down the central fountain which was originally situated in the north courtyard. Moreover, the gift shop on the bottom left corner which lied next to the card and jewelry store had been knocked down. A further difference is the removal of the bookstore which was previously tracked beside the women’s clothing and the sporting goods.
