The illustration highlights the changes that occurred in Harborne from a quiet town to a more residential area over a period of 71 years, from 1936 to 2007.
A shopping centre was newly built right at the core of the town on the ground where a garden used to be located. There was a rectangular area surrounding the shopping mall which reduced in the number of facilities from 1936 to 2007. Of these particular facilities, three of them remained the same, namely a post office to the west north of the shopping center, a bank to the south, and a library to the right of the bank. The sweet shop and butchers, to the north and the east north of the garden respectively, were demolished to build a supermarket. The flower shop, to the left of the bank, was replaced with a travel agent. Moving outside the rectangular area to the southwest of the town, a museum was constructed exactly on the location where the government offices were situated 71 years ago. To the right of the museum, a golf course was also erected on the initial farm land. The original cycle path in the southwest part of Harborne was straightened and made into a road. The river, to the east north of the town, was filled to make room for a residential area. In the west north region, two of three trees were chopped down.
