The maps illustrate the development which took place in Youngsville, New Zealand, between 1980 and 2005.
In 1980 there were a great deal of green zones around the town but after 25 years it can be seen that the situation changed and there were barely any trees in any area. In 1980, there was a residential district on the north-east of the town and in front of the hospital located on the north-west there was a lake surrounded by a huge number of trees. On the other hand, in 2005, on the north-side of the village there were a few more facilities: a stadium and parking were built up and as a consequence green zones were eliminated.
In 2005, new infrastructures were built, a high rise was built on the sea side, while on the south-west a new industrial estate was built with factories and warehouses. As a result of this situation, the houses, parks and picnic areas that were in this area in 1980 were knocked down. In addition to this, a marina was built alongside the river.
Overall, even though the main facilities as in the school, hospital and airport were preserved, the residential suburbs and parks had been replaced with factories and stadiums. It is clear that the town experienced a change from a coastal quiet town to an industrial estate.
