Overall, the 70-year period has witnessed dramatic urbanzation of the area with a substantially higher population and modernized transport system. The most noticeable change of the city is the construction of a new dam in the east which help to accumulate water and turned the river’s middle channel into a huge lake. Furthermore, with the extension of the bridge and the airport, as well as the creation of two major highways and a brand new bridge to allow access to the southern and eastern regions. This upgrade has improved the local transportation network. With the establishment of a second business district on the other side of the lake and a broad residental area, the construction of the roadways have paved the way for the southwards expansion. This is critical for the remarkable growth of the population from 20, 000 in 1950 to 200, 000 now. In terms of administation, a new government building has been built in the south near the second road while the smaller and older one remains at the same location but has been reduced in size.
