The line graph illustrates the amount of Chicken, Beef, Pork and Lam bought by british citizens between 1974 and 2011. Overall, it can be clearly seen that the amount of meat bought in the UK declined over the period. Interstingly, whilst the purchases of beef decreased significantly, more or less reversing positions between 1974 and 1997, the amount of chicken bought increased consistently ending the period as the most consumed meat. In addition, the was a moderate fall in the purchases of pork and lamb during the entire period. The level of consumption of meat clearly underwent a considerable fall during the entire period with the level of beef sales, which stood at just under 200g in 1974, plummeting to just under 100g around 1997. In contrast, the amount of chicken meat consumed reversed positions with beef, rising from roughly 130g in 1974 to just under 200g in 2011. In contrast, pork and lamb underwent a constant decline in sales, also reversing positions with lamb ending the period as the least bought type of meat, decreasing from around 130g in 1974 to more or less 40g un 2011.
