The graphs illustrate the enrolments of overseas and local students in Australian universities between 2001 and 2010. Overall the number of students has risen in this period. Since 2001 the number total number of overseas students has increased rapidly, however commencing overseas students has seen only a gradual upwards trend. Between 2003 and 2008 the number of overseas students almost doubled, growing from 40000 to approximately 80000, while the number of local students in this timespan only grew by 6000. The total number of local students also increased in a fast manner, but only between 2001 and 2006. Since then this number has been stagnant. In terms of local commencing students, the graphs showcases that eventhough between 2001 and 2002, this number spiked, overall there has been only minor fluctuation in these years. Since 2007, the number of local commencing students in Australian universities is slowly declining. Finally, the number of overseas students has always seen an increase, while the number of local students has plateaud.
