The chart graphs indicate the attendees of international and domestic students in universities in Australia for a decade. Overall, the number of international students has increased, while the figure of local students has remained the almost same. Firstly, the total applicants from overseas was at 20000 in 2001. The number has steadily grown and reached at over 80000 in 2010. About the half of the applicants have commenced in the universities in each year. In contrast, in 2001, more than 400000 local students applied the universities, and approximately 200000 people started the courses. Between 2001 and 2007, while the number of applications from domestic students has gone up, the students commencing the universities have not changed much at around 200000. Since 2007, both the applicants and participants have been levelled off at 600000 at the former and 200000 at the latter. The percentage of participants compared to the applicants has decreased 50% to 33% over the decade.
