The graph shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.

The proportion of people with 65 years old and above in 3 countries of the world is illustrated in the graph. Overall, it is clearly seen that from 2020 onwards, the number of people aging over 65 years old rises rapidly for all the countries. Also, before around 2030, Japan is the country that has the least amount of elderly people among the 3 countries. Sweden and USA show similar patterns through the years. In 1940, the three countries start from similar points, with between 5% and 10% of elderly people. Then in 1960, the number slightly rises for Sweden and USA, but decreases as half as much in Japan. This country remain stable for several years, but around 1990, its percentage goes upwards constantly until around 2030, when its number leaps from 10% to 25% in a few years, to finish in 2040 with around a 27%, the highest percentage among the three countries for this year. Sweden and USA show similar proportions, slowly and constantly rising until the year 1980. In that point, USA maintained consistent for 40 years, but in 2020 elderly population starts to slowly climb to reach between 20% and 25% by 2040. On the other side, Sweden shows unstable patterns, increasing and decreasing through all the years, finishing with a 25% by 2040. It can be said that the three countries increased their number of people over 65 years in around of 20%.
