The trend-line in figure portrays data on the number of visitors of an island in the Caribbean, divided in three categories: the total number of visitors, the number of visitors that stayed on the island and the number of visitors staying on cruise ships. The numbers of tourists are given in millions and the period of time sampled goes from 2010 to 2017. Firstly, the total number of tourists visiting the island has constantly increased throughout the years. Over the 7 years considered, the total number more than triples, going from 1 million in 2010 to 3. 5 million in 2017. These numbers are seen to rapidly increase between 2010 and 2014, as the total visitors more than double in just 4 years, reaching 2. 5 million in 2014. The upward trend slows down from 2014 to 2016, witnessing an addition of just 500, 000 visitors in two years, and accelerates again from 2016 to 2017 at record rates, adding 1. 5 million tourists in just one year. Secondly, total visitors staying on the island have consistently outnumbered the total number of visitors staying on cruise ships from 2010 to the second half of 2015. The Caribbean island hosted 750, 000 visitors staying on it in 2010. That same number does not change in 2011 but it increases until 2015, adding a total of 1. 25 million visitors. It looks like the number of visitors on the island moderately decreases from 2015 to 2016 and picks up again in 2017, reassessing itself at 2015 levels (1. 5 million visitors). Visitors staying on cruise ships, on the other hand, has been the category recording the lowest number of tourists until the second half of 2015. Numbers continuously oscillates from 2010 to 2013, as they range between a minimum 250, 000 visitors and a maximum of 500, 000. However, 2013 marks the beginning of a consistent upward trend as there is an average addition of 250, 000 visitors staying on cruise ships every year. The total number of tourists in this category peaks at 2 million in 2017. In conclusion, the numbers of cruise ships tourists has significantly increased in the long-run, while the total number of tourists staying on the island has witnessed a milder trend of growth, assessing itself at 1. 5 million. Overall, the total number of visitors has seen a consistent upward trend with rates of growth accelerating during the last year of the sample.
