Overall, it can be seen thatboth immigration and emigration saw an upward trend while the net peaked in 2004 and 2007. Looking at the figures of the immigration, there was a gradual increase from about 450, 000 in 1999 to nearly 590, 000 in 2004. Meanwhile, the emigration rose steadily by nearly 470, 000 in 2002 before remaining unchanged at the a similar level until 2004. The net remained constant at about 170, 000 from 1999 to 2003 before reaching its highest point at 250, 000 in 2004. After that, this number fluctuated in an upward trend in the remaining years.
