The given bar chart illustrates that the percentage of households in owned and rented accommodation in England and Wales changed from 1918 to 2011. XnY7w
Overall, it is evident that British people preferred to move from rented to owned accommodation in this period. After 1971, the percentage of owned accommodation exceeded that of rented accommodation. Moreover, this statistic remained unchanged and underwent fluctuation in 1939 as well as 1953 and after 1981 respectively. With regard to accommodation, in the first 35 years, the proportion of rented apartments was maintained around 70% in comparison to owned apartments, at about 30%. In addition to that, the same proportion of 50% in both categories can be seen in 1971. Apart from that, the figure of rented apartments suffered from a decrease to 40% in 1981 followed by approximately 30% in 1991 and 2001. By 2011, the rent rate of households had risen by 5%, which is the same reduction in owned apartments.
