“The rice shortage that recently affected a number of countries in Asian region showed how unpredictable nature can be if people continue to become apathetic about improving the rice production. Oftentimes, before a storm gets worse, most people can often be seen queuing for a bag or two of National Food Authority supplied rice or NFA rice. Worse, observing a full square meal a day is impossible for some. This leads people to reflect on how they can help to counter this strongly felt problem. It can be seen in restaurants that there are plenty of leftover servings of rice knowing that hunger in resettlement areas exists, Going home from school, I have witnessed families sheltering in shanties at a town pulling through lunch with mere kropek and noodles at hand. Along the area, there are youngsters satisfying themselves with the least modest skewers sold by hawkers. Yet, at a square canteen, I have seen tradeoff- students disregarding the value of rice servings and modest viands where plates are left on the table just that. ”
