The diagram below shows how electricity is generated in a hydroelectric power station. j0l1
The given diagram of working of hydroelectric power station illustrates how electricity is produced. To begin with, water from the river is stored in a high-level reservoir with the help of a dam. During the daytime, the stored water is supplied to the reversible turbine in the power station from intake to generate electricity. In the next step, reversible turbines are used to operate the generator. The generator then generates electricity, which is then transferred to power lines. From power lines, electricity is supplied to the national grid. The water which is passed through the reversible turbine is stored in a low-level reservoir. At night, water from the low-level reservoir is supplied back to high-level reservoir with the help reversible pump. The reversible at night used to pump water back into the high-level reservoir. The flow of water is towards the intake during this time. Intake is closed for water in high-level reservoir at night. Overall, the flow of water is from the high-level reservoir to low-level reservoir when the aim is to generate electricity.
