The bar chart compares the development of the urban population in Africa, Asia, Latin American and the whole world in 1950, 2000 and projected by 2030. Overall, it is clear that the proportion of people in cities rose from 1950 to 2000 in all regions and in the whole world. It is predicted to increase further by 2030. Most cities experienced a sharp increase over a period of 50 years. In 1950, the percentage of living in cities in Africa was around 10%, it was then rose significantly to just under 40%. These figures were similar to Asia. In additions, the proportion of the growth of urban population in Latin America in 1950 was higher than in Africa and Asia, at 40%. This number then rose to 70% which was higher than the whole world's percentage which was only 30% in 1950 and nearly 50% in 2000. In 2030, the percentages of people who live in cities in Africa and Asia are expected to rise to 50% and 55%, respectively. These figures are smaller than the world's predicted number, at 60%. The highest figure is going to be for Latin America, at 80%
