The following diagrams show the process in which energy is generted from waves and how the installation of these wave energy generators varies in location and price. When the wave enters the machine, the water causes an upflow of air which is lead into another chamber with 2 turbines facing opposite directions. The upper turbine is rotated by the air flow on top of the machine whereas the lower turbine is rotated by the air from the chamber in which the water enters. These turbines are similar to windmills on a smaller scale which also generate a renewable form of energy. The upflow of air leaves the chamber through a gap on top of the machine whereas the air flow facing down goes into the chamber with the water to regulate the pressure. The two turbines are connected to an electricity generator which generates electricity from the rotational motion of the turbine. These wave energy machines can either be placed closer to the shore or away from it. The machines away from the shore generate a higher output due to larger waves with a downside of a higher installation cost whereas the ones closer to the shore generate less output because of smaller waves but are cheaper to install.
