The graphs presented to us are two line charts, portraying the enrolments of students in Australian universities for a time period of 2001 to 2010. One of them illustrates the information for the overseas students, while the other graph shows the numbers for the local students. The color red represents the total number and the color blue is attributed to the students commencing their education. The Overseas Students graph clearly indicates a linear increase in the enrolments of the students between the years 2004 and 2007. Overall, the trend is increasing. The rise is more prominent for the total number of students, with the lowest being 20000 in the year 2001 and the highest being around 80000 in the year 2010. The Local Students graph shows an initial increase in the total students enrollment, followed by a plateau phase for the year 2007 to 2010. There is no particular pattern for the commencing students cohort. Looking at the scales of the Y-axis for both of the graphs, it is evidently clear that the number of total enrolments of students from overseas is more than the local students. The maximum number of 80000 for the international student intake is substantially greater than the 60000 proportion of the local student intake. Majority proportion of students who are going to commence their studies are international students. Though the trend of students commencing their education has increased in the Overseas Students graph, it has been more or less same for the local students. In conclusion, the two graphs delineate the overall increase in the number of student enrolments in Australian universities, with more contribution of increase from the international pool of students.
