The diagram detailed above delineates how sugar is produced from sugarcane. Looking from an overall perspective, it is readily apparent that the process is comprised of 4 main stages including Growing and Harvesting, followed by Crushing and Purifying, then Evaporating and Centrifuging and finally Drying and Cooling. Sugar production commences when sugarcane is grown for 12-18 months and then harvested by two processes either by using sugarcane harvesting trucks or by hand. Then the harvested sugarcane is crushed to prepare juice using crushing machines. Collected sugar cane juice is purified through limestone filter. The next stages involve manufacture of sugar crystals from sugarcane juice. The purified juice is heated in an evaporator to form syrup. The syrup is placed in a centrifuge where it separates sugar crystals from syrup. Finally the sugar crystals are dried and cooled.
