This graph provides information on the number of trips children aged 5-12 have made using different means of transportation in 1990 and 2010 to go to and come back from school in a country. There has been rapid growth in the number of children travelling through car, as in 1190 it was just above 4 million and in 2010 it is estimated to be around 11 million. In contrast, there has been an enormous decline in the number of children walking to school. While in 1990 it was more than 12 million, in 2010 it is just 6 million trips. There isn’t a significant change to the number of trips to school by bus. In 1990 it was about 7 million and in 2010 it came down to approximately 5 million. However the number of trips to school by cycling reduced to 2 million and the number of trips to school by walking and bus reduced to about 3 million in 2010.
