Johnson: Good morning, Tom! Tom: Good morning, Professor Johnson! Johnson: How may I help you? Tom: As you know, I’m currently studying for a Bachelor’s degree in English Language. My freshman year is coming to an end. Next semester, we have to take second foreign language courses. I’ve heard that there are only 3 Asian languages: Japanese, Korean, and Chinese that I can choose from. I wonder if foreign languages like French and German are offered. Johnson: Oh I see. Actually, French and German were also options for students in previous years. However, from next year, French and German are not in our offerings anymore because there were not many students taking these courses formerly. It’s a pity that you can choose either French or German anymore. But may I know why you want to study one of these two languages? You are not interested in Japanese, Korean, or Chinese? Tom: Well. Actually, I’m not really confident in learning any of those Asian languages due to the alphabets. They are really tough for me. I’m not sure if I can learn any of them. Johnson: I feel you. Unfortunately, you cannot pick and choose. But don’t worry. Now matter what language you go for next semester, the professor will help you.
